Lunar New Year

This will be the second annual Lunar New Year celebration at the UT Physicians Multispecialty - International District clinic.

Musical performances, dancing, games and red envelopes – that’s right, it’s the Year of the Rat and we’re celebrating! UT Physicians Multispecialty – International District is hosting Healthy – For Good!, their second annual Lunar New Year celebration, on January 30.

Located at 10623 Bellaire Blvd., Suite C280, the event will take place from 10 a.m. to noon and is open to the public. A team of certified health education specialists will be performing an opening dance piece.

Last year, guests were treated to a traditional tai chi demonstration.

The day will be filled with cultural events and fun activities aimed at promoting a healthier new year. There will be musical acts and dancing performances featuring aboriginal and Chinese traditional culture. Attendees can also enjoy interactive games and receive their very own lucky red envelope. The tradition in Chinese culture is to hand lucky red envelopes on special occasions as a token of good fortune for the coming year.

“This year we chose the theme ‘Healthy – For Good!’ for our Lunar New Year celebration. We want to encourage the community to eat healthier, be more active, and successfully manage stress to benefit overall health. We welcome everyone to join us, enjoy the beautiful display of different cultures, and take home valuable information about living healthier in 2020,” said Ivy Weng, program coordinator and community health education specialist.

Located within the Saigon-Houston Plaza, the clinic resides in the heart of the International Management District. Designed with feng shui tenets in mind, the space promotes balance among all five elements – wood, fire, metal, earth, and water. Red and gold accents, positive colors in many Asian and Hispanic cultures, are used throughout the facility. The staff can assist patients in seven languages – Spanish, Urdu, Mandarin, French, Vietnamese, Arabic, and Akan. The International District clinic truly represents the diversity of the surrounding communities it serves.

“Our diversity is our strength and collaboration is a path to peace. We understand that the world is a multicultural society of which we are a part of. Ultimately, this leads us to provide better patient care through respecting and understanding each other for our differences,” said Fahad Kamal, community practice manager for UT Physicians Multispecialty – International District.
