Uterine Fibroids are benign growths in the uterus also known leiomyomas. They may occur in women of any age, but most commonly occur in women ages 30 – 40 years. Fibroids may be single or multiple, and can be very large or small.
Most fibroids cause no symptoms at all but when present may cause:
- Changes in menstrual periods (longer, heavier, irregular, or more painful)
- Abdominal or pelvic pain
- Pain with sexual intercourse
- Pelvic pressure
- Difficulty or frequency with urination
