As we approach two full months of emphasizing social distancing, we know many of you need to be seen for annual check-ups, vaccinations or health concerns you may be experiencing. We are listening. In response, UT Physicians has extended its hours to provide evening options Monday – Friday and Saturday appointments for new and established patients at our community-based clinics.
We understand many people in the community have been delaying in-person health care provider appointments due to COVID-19 concerns. An annual check-up is an important visit to evaluate whether underlying conditions exist. We don’t want anything to go unchecked. It’s also important to us that we are there for you when you are feeling ill.
You’ve asked, we’ve listened: Extended hours available
“Beginning May 4, UT Physicians community-based clinics will have extended hours to provide care for your medical needs during this unprecedented time,” said Thomas J. Murphy, MD, chief medical officer for community-based clinics at UT Physicians and assistant dean for health policy at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. “We will be here for you in the evenings and weekends to provide increased access to our primary care and specialty physicians. It is especially important now, perhaps more than ever, to ensure you are taking all measures available to care for yourself and your family.”
Below is a list of safety measures we are taking at UT Physicians as we keep our doors open for you:
- Staff screened each day
- Higher level of disinfection in all common areas
- Masks worn by staff
- All visitors supplied with masks if they arrive without one and screened for COVID-19 symptoms
- Visitor access limited in clinics to reduce contact (one parent or guardian only for pediatric appointments, no additional persons for adult appointments unless the patient has neurological or physical challenges)
- In most cases, patient is brought directly to exam room upon arrival
- If exam rooms are full, physical distancing will take place in all waiting rooms
- Waiting rooms will not have magazines or books available
- Waiting rooms cleaned as people are roomed
“UT Physicians understands how difficult this time has been for our patients with everything from anxiety due to the crisis, to the sudden onset of home schooling children,” said Jason Chavers, executive director of community-based clinics. “By remaining open during this crisis and now extending our hours to meet your needs, we hope we give you options to get the medical care you need.”
For our community that is still hesitant on in-person visits, UT Physicians is offering telemedicine. That is a valuable source to access the same great care you expect from us.
