The XFL Houston Roughnecks will receive world-class care thanks to the club’s newest sponsors, UT Physicians, the clinical practice of McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Physicians and support staff with the orthopedics department will serve as the club’s official sports medicine provider.

New sports medicine provider for Houston’s XFL team

“UT Physicians is a recognized national leader in patient care with consistent demonstration of excellence in the treatment of athletes,” said Roughnecks President Brian Michael Cooper. “Our athletes are in great hands under their care and supervision, and the Roughnecks are proud to partner with such a trusted name in health care.”

The Roughnecks plan to focus on health awareness during the March 22 Health and Wellness Game presented by UT Physicians. The game will include a co-branded fan giveaway, health and wellness themed activations, and UT Physicians leadership will be recognized on the field.

The Roughnecks will host the DC Defenders on Sunday, March 22 with kick-off slated for 5 p.m.

“UT Physicians is proud to be the sports medicine provider of the Houston Roughnecks in their first year with the XFL,” said Andrew Casas, chief operating officer of UT Physicians and senior vice president of UTHealth. “Houston is a big sports city—and this is just one more opportunity for families to enjoy a professional game. We are looking forward to a great season.”

“We are committed to working with the Roughnecks to provide orthopedic and sports medicine care for their athletes,” said Walter Lowe, MD, chair and professor of the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, chief of orthopedic surgery at Memorial Hermann – Texas Medical Center and medical director of the Memorial Hermann Sports Medicine Institute. “We hope to give the Roughnecks the highest quality of services and foster new relationships between the two organizations.”
