Carlos R. Hamilton, M.D., comes from a rich family tradition of caring for others.
Born and raised in Texas, his father was a surgeon. In college, biochemistry and physiology resonated with him.
“I knew I didn’t want to be a surgeon,” said a smiling Hamilton. “Endocrinology just rang a bell with me. It delved into the sciences I enjoyed studying. I also liked that there were a lot of ways to help people.”
In private practice for 25 years, Dr. Hamilton began working at UT Physicians in 2000. He is a professor of medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth.
“I enjoy getting to know patients,” Dr. Hamilton said. “I enjoy hearing their stories and looking for ways to help them.”
When Dr. Hamilton isn’t in clinic, he is a professional writer who has published one historical narrative and a children’s book.
He is the father of two children and loves to hunt and fish.
