Laura Benjamins, M.D., M.P.H., associate professor of pediatrics at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth, said she made the decision to become a physician towards the end of her college undergraduate years.
“I was a psychology major at Vassar College,” said Dr. Benjamins. “It wasn’t until my senior year that I decided to go to medical school. During my adolescent medicine fellowship here at UT, I fell in love with taking care of teens with HIV, as well as incarcerated youth.”
Dr. Benjamins said she is passionate about providing excellent and compassionate care to underserved and high risk teenagers.
She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics, Society of Adolescent Health Medicine and the Academic Consortium on Criminal Justice Health.
