People began lining up nearly one hour before the UT Physicians – Jensen clinic opened for Congressman Gene Green’s 23rd Annual Immunization Day event on Saturday, August 11.
“I believe it is important for our clinic to team up with community advocates and resources, such as Congressman Gene Green’s 23rd Annual Immunization Day event, to help bring awareness of proper immunization against vaccine-preventable diseases, said Marlon Stewart,” Jensen practice manager. “We seek out collaborations that will make effective and positive impacts in the communities where we provide services.”
“Immunization Day is one of our most widely attended events,” said Congressman Gene Green. “Immunizations are one of the most important disease prevention steps we can take to protect our children. It is a great opportunity for children to get the shots they need at no cost.”
This is the second year UT Physicians – Jensen has hosted the event. This year, 82 flu shots were administered and nearly 100 people took part in health screenings. While the event was scheduled to end at 12:00, due to strong attendance, it lasted until 2:00. The Jensen clinic was one of three locations that hosted the event.
Along with immunizations and health screenings, school supplies and healthy groceries were also distributed to the 165 people who filled the clinic. UT Physicians teamed up with Walgreens for the flu vaccines and the Houston Food Bank to provide the groceries.
