Inferior Vena Cava Filter Management

Inferior vena cava (IVC) filters are small devices placed in a large vein in the abdomen to prevent blood clots from traveling to the lungs. We provide both placement and retrieval of these filters using minimally invasive, image-guided techniques.

IVC filter placement

For patients at high risk of pulmonary embolism who cannot take blood thinners, we insert a small filter into the IVC to trap clots and prevent them from reaching the lungs.

IVC filter retrieval

When the risk of clotting has passed, we use specialized tools to remove the filter safely. Timely removal helps reduce the risk of complications, and we monitor patients closely to determine when removal is appropriate.
