For the second consecutive year, Becker’s Healthcare has recognized Dr. Babatope O. Fatuyi, chief medical information officer at UTHealth Houston, as one of “58 hospital and health system CMIOs and CNIOs to know.” Physician and nurse leaders on the list are noted for their influence, dedication, and impact on health care technology.
Fatuyi is one of three Texas CMIOs recognized. The other two Texas honorees are colleagues at other institutions within The University of Texas System. He is the only CMIO in Houston on the list.
The impact of a CMIO
“This recognition belongs to our entire team,” Fatuyi said. “Together, we’ve worked to ensure that technology enhances and genuinely improves the health care experience for our patients and providers.”
In his five years at UTHealth Houston, Fatuyi has helped lead the university’s successful technology evolution and transformative change initiative. This includes Epic electronic health record implementation and three Level 10 Epic Gold Stars recognitions. His foresight and strategic input contributed to outstanding recognition on the 2024 KLAS survey as UTHealth Houston earned the Pinnacle of EHR Experience Award from KLAS Research.
Leading innovation
Currently, Fatuyi chairs the EHR Governance Taskforce and the organization’s Center for Digital Healthcare Innovation steering committee. He continues to lead digital innovation and AI adoption efforts across the university, positioning UTHealth Houston at the forefront of health care’s new technological frontier.
Fatuyi earned this CMIO recognition the previous year, as well. This repeated honor confirms not only Fatuyi’s individual excellence but also the university’s commitment to embracing and implementing solutions to advance UTHealth Houston’s mission of providing exceptional patient care.
As part of this recognition, Fatuyi will speak at Becker’s Healthcare conference later this year.
