Absalon Gutierrez, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained endocrinologist. His primary clinical interests are Type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity.
He’s also an associate professor at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He is also the medical director for endocrinology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and its affiliated clinics.
His research on the role of incretin medication actions on obesity and metabolism is funded by the National Institutes of Health. His other research explores the cardiovascular and metabolic effects of diabetes research on genetics and cardiovascular complications of prediabetes and Type 2 diabetes mellitus.
Outside of work, Gutierrez enjoys playing jazz and classical music, reading, exercising, and helping with church-related activities.
