Absalon Gutierrez, MD, is an associate professor at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth). He is also the medical director for endocrinology at Lyndon B. Johnson Hospital and its affiliated clinics.
Dr. Gutierrez’s primary clinical interests are in type 2 diabetes mellitus and obesity. He is fluent in Spanish and enjoys taking care of his patients.
His research on the role of incretin medication actions on obesity and metabolism is funded by the National Institutes of Health. His other research explores cardiovascular and metabolic effects of diabetes research on genetics and cardiovascular complications of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus.
When not seeing patients, Dr. Gutierrez enjoys playing jazz and classical music, reading, exercise and helping with church-related activities.
