A group of surgeons with UTHealth has formed the Comprehensive Congenital Colorectal Program to care for patients diagnosed with congenital colorectal conditions as they age out of pediatric care.

Akemi L. Kawaguchi, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained pediatric surgeon treating patients ranging in age from premature infants to teenagers. She combines excellent surgical skills with good communication and a caring bedside manner. She loves children and making them feel better, focusing on treatment delivered with a kind, fun-loving attitude.
She’s also an associate professor in the Department of Pediatric Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston.
Kawaguchi is married and the mother of two boys. Outside of work, she enjoys figure skating, art, and baking.
