The Voice, Airway and Swallowing Program (VASP), in collaboration with the Texas Voice Performance Institute at UTHealth Houston, provides comprehensive medical and surgical treatment and expertise in a broad range of conditions affecting the throat.

Office-Based Procedures

We offer diagnostic and therapeutic procedures in an outpatient office setting using local anesthesia. These procedures include video stroboscopy, biopsies, vocal fold injections, laser treatments, transnasal esophagoscopy, esophageal balloon dilations, bronchoscopy, superior laryngeal nerve blocks for chronic cough, and botulinum toxin injections for the larynx.

Andrew G. Tritter, MD

Andrew G. Tritter, MD

Andrew G. Tritter, MD, is an assistant professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery. He directs the department’s laryngology division and the Texas Voice Performance Institute. His experiences have given him extensive training in voice, airway, and swallowing disorders for patients of all ages. His clinical interests include care for the professional voice, vocal fold paralysis, spasmodic dysphonia, management of early-stage laryngeal cancer, benign vocal fold lesions, respiratory papillomatosis, tracheal stenosis, laryngeal stenosis, swallowing disorders, chronic cough, and numerous other conditions affecting the throat.

Karim Asi

Karim W. Asi, MD

Karim Asi, MD is an assistant professor in the Department of Otorhinolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at UTHealth Houston. After obtaining a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish from The University of Texas at Austin, Dr. Asi returned to his native Houston, where he earned his medical degree from the McGovern Medical School at UTHealth. Following medical school, he stayed on at UTHealth to complete his otorhinolaryngology residency. During this time, he received rigorous surgical and clinical training and was honored as Resident of the Year.
