Dr. Michael Weaver, DFASAM, is a professor and medical director at the Center for Neurobehavioral Research on Addictions for the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at McGovern Medical School at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).

Dr. Weaver primarily sees adolescents, adults and seniors with any substance use disorder or concerns about misuse of controlled substance prescription medications. Dr. Weaver uses the latest medical practices to treat addiction, based on scientific study. His treatment approach is to have a recovery plan with different components for each patient, since every person is unique. He encourages development of a personal recovery support network involving family, peers, and health professionals. Attendance at support groups (such as Smart Recovery, Celebrate Recovery or Alcoholics Anonymous) is encouraged. Professional counseling in an individual or group setting is also an essential part of treatment. Dr. Weaver meets with all patients personally to perform an evaluation. He then works with his patients to come up with a personalized treatment plan, including prescribing medications for treatment of addiction with ongoing follow-up visits.

Dr. Weaver is an active member of several professional organizations including the American Pain Society, American Society of Addiction Medicine, Association for Medical Education and Research in Substance Abuse, College on Problems of Drug Dependence. He is also a Distinguished Fellow of the American Society of Addiction Medicine.

When Dr. Weaver is not caring for his patients, he enjoys spending time with family and reading.
