A group of surgeons with UTHealth has formed the Comprehensive Congenital Colorectal Program to care for patients diagnosed with congenital colorectal conditions as they age out of pediatric care.

Marianne Cusick, MD, FACS, cares for patients of all ages needing colon and rectal care, and screenings. She treats a wide range of conditions including benign and cancerous conditions of the colon, rectum and anus, pelvic floor disorders, fecal incontinence and inflammatory bowel disease. Additionally, she has an interest in minimally invasive surgery and performs robotic and laparoscopic surgeries on the DaVinci surgical system.
Dr. Cusick is strives for enhanced recovery after surgery and advocates for prehabilitation to treat pain prior to and after surgery.
Outside of patient care, Dr. Cusick is the assistant program director for the training program and focuses on surgical education and clinical research. She has published many scholarly articles and book chapters and has presented scientific research locally, regionally, and nationally.
Dr. Cusick was born in Belgium, moving to the USA as a child. When she is not in the office, Dr. Cusick enjoys spending time with her husband and 3 young children. She enjoys jogging, traveling, and spending time with family.
Dr. Marianne Cusick earned an undergraduate degree at Georgia Institute of Technology, a Master’s in public health-epidemiology at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, and a medical degree at Morehouse School of Medicine in Atlanta. She completed her residency in general surgery and a research fellowship at the University of Alabama-Birmingham, followed by a fellowship in colon and rectal surgery at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (UTHealth).
Board-certified in general surgery, Dr. Cusick treats patients of all ages. Her clinical interests include colon cancer screening, benign and malignant conditions of the colon, rectum and anus as well as pelvic floor disorders, inflammatory bowel disease, minimally invasive surgery and treatment of incontinence. She is also involved in surgical education and research.
Author of a number of medical articles and book chapters, Dr. Cusick has presented scientific research regionally and nationally. She is a member of the American College of Surgeons, American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons, the Texas Medical Association, the Texas Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons and the Harris County Medical Society.
