Surgery methods
Several surgical methods are available. Your surgeon will recommend what’s best for you based on your diagnosis. These may include:
- Traditional open surgery: Your surgeon uses a scalpel to make an incision in the skin and tissues.
- Minimally invasive endoscopic surgery: Your surgeon makes small cuts in the skin and then inserts a slim tube with a light and camera on its tip (endoscope) that transmits images of the surgery site that the surgeon uses to guide their instruments.
- Minimally invasive laparoscopic surgery: Your surgeon makes small cuts in the skin and then inserts a tube with a high-resolution camera (laparoscope) that sends images to a video monitor.
- Minimally invasive robotic-assisted surgery: Your surgeon controls robotic surgical instruments inserted in a small incision, making controlled, precise surgical movements while viewing a three-dimensional image of the surgical area.
