Along with treating general neurological challenges, physicians at the neurology clinic also welcome new lumbar puncture patients. Those clinics are held on Friday mornings from 8am-11am. The clinic is scheduled on Fridays to allow time for patients to recover over the weekend.
Why would a lumbar puncture be done:
- Certain inflammatory conditions of the nervous system, such as multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre Syndrome
- Help diagnose serious bacterial, fungal and viral infections, including meningitis, encephalitis and syphilis
- Bleeding around the brain
- Certain cancers involving the brain or spinal cord
